Events | 613 Night Market | Ottawa’s Hippest Bazaar

When I moved back to Ottawa a couple of months ago, I wasn’t exactly sure what was in store for me.  I had been getting used to the constant whirlwind that is Toronto for the last 3 years.  And before that, I was travelling and living all over the world.  So, I have to admit that I was worried when I first arrived here.  I kept thinking, “ohhh no, I’m back in that sleepy old government town”.

Well guess what?  I was wrong.  The more I look around, the more I realize that this place is truly thriving in so many different ways.  Everywhere I turn, there’s something new and exciting happening.  Amongst the many different events taking place here, there is one in particular that I’m really looking forward to attending.

I have a couple questions for you before I get into the nitty gritty details though.  Do you like food?  Yeah, me too.  Okay, how about shopping?  Umm helloooo!  How about both at the same time?  And how about at night with kick ass music and drinks?  Yes, Yes, and YES!  Welcome to the 613 Night Market, Spring 2015 edition.

I live for buzzing events that bring people together in a fun and creative way so when I heard about this one, I grabbed my calendar and market off the date immediately.  On May 2nd from 4pm to 12am at the Shaw Centre (formerly the Convention Centre), this market is set to shine a spotlight on some of the best chefs, artists, creators and entrepreneurs in Ottawa.

Tickets for entry are $10 in advance or $15 at the door from 7pm onwards.  All of the food is priced between $2-$5 and goes to supporting local businesses.  Cash only though, so hit up that ATM before you head in or be sure to visit one on site.

So, who can you expect to see there?  Well, I would like to highlight just a few of the up to 100 vendors that will be on site at the 613 Night Market.  Trust me, there are tons of awesome choices.

Cakes in a jar?  Yes, please.  But Oh So Good cakes in a jar?  We have just reached the next level, my friends.  This dessert and coffee house holds a special place in my heart.  It’s where I truly fell in love with cake.  Probably because the pieces that come out are the size of your face.  With more than 30 types of pies and cakes, a unique blend of coffee and consistently fantastic vibes, they’re one of my go-to Ottawa hot spots.  Check out their new location in Westboro!

Raon Kitchen

This authentic Korean restaurant began at local Ottawa farmers markets and then grew into a successful thriving business.  All of their dishes are fermentation-related foods which are probiotic-rich and make your meals much easier to digest.  Raon [ra:on] means ‘greatly pleasing, enjoyable and cheerful’ in pure Korean.

So, did you grab your tickets yet?  I have mine already, so I’ll see you there!  I doubt I’ll be able to talk to you though, my mouth will be full of cake.  And you think I’m joking…
