Food & Wine | Mortlach Malt Whisky is a welcome addition to Canada

For those of you who follow Julio & I on social media (@Fashionights & @DoTheDaniel on both Twitter and Instagram), you would remember that we recently attended an LCBO Vintages scotch tasting. During our visit to Shangri-La Hotel Toronto, we were introduced to Mortlach Malt Whisky. Recently launched in Canada, I fell in love with both the brand and brand ambassador Georgie Bell

I came to learn that although Mortlach is new to Canada, it has a very long history of tradition and perfecting the art of Malt Whisky.

“For decades, Mortlach’s output has been largely captured by Diageo’s blenders to add its unique notes to complex world-class Blended Scotch whiskies – though in recent times, a very limited number of bottles of Mortlach Single Malt Whisky have been available, and sold rapidly to connoisseurs in the know.

But now for the first time, and in response to suggestions over the years that such a rewarding Single Malt Whisky deserved a wider market, it will be available in global markets in four expressions aimed at global travel and the luxury and connoisseur segment: Rare Old, Special Strength, 18-year-old and 25-year-old.”

Please note, for anyone looking to get me a gift in 2015, that I will happily take several bottles of each. The smothe elegance and execution of single malt whisky are captured in varying intensities. My personal favourite of the four would have to be the 18-year-old with its intense earthiness contrasted by hints of caramel. #Heaven.

I couldn’t have been introduced and seduced by the Mortlach brand without the passion and knowledge of their Global Brand Ambassador Georgie Bell. Not only is she incredibly educated, but she is also charming and well versed in a old tradition for a woman of her age. She’s basically our new BFF.
