Food & Wine | The Keg partners with Bullfrog Power to lead Canadian Restaurants in the right direction

The iconic Canadian restaurant chain The Keg Steakhouse + Bar made some green changes to the way they operate recently. The brand decided to partner with Bullfrog Power and are now officially the largest purchaser of Bullfrog Power’s Green Energy among restaurant chains in Canada. This will hopefully help to set the trend for an industry that most of us don’t realize consumes a substantial amount of energy, and not always in the most eco-conscious of ways.

Though I unfortunately missed out on the media event celebrating the new collab (Follow the #GreenEnergy hashtag for some behind the scenes from the evening) due to a hectic schedule with Julio, this new initiative is one I had to share. I believe that corporate responsibility is key for any brand, no matter what the size or industry. For many years I worked for The Keg Steakhouse + Bar and I know how passionate they are on matters such as this one.

“The Keg is taking its strong commitment to youth in an inspirational new direction by choosing Bullfrog Power’s green energy to reduce the environmental impact of its bullfrogpowered locations,” said Peter Melanson, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “With green natural gas, The Keg is supporting a unique and innovative environmental solution that demonstrates to guests that it is thinking about our future by acting today.”

The choice to go green at their Toronto & Vancouver locations is an amazing start to what I hope will be a trend in the restaurant industry in Canada. Alternatives to conventional energy use (and in the most part, waste) are becoming more common. With initiatives lead by industry experts such as Bullfrog Power, Canada is showing it’s true colours and I couldn’t be more proud.

“The Keg Steakhouse + Bar is committed to supporting youth and, since 2001, has raised money for hundreds of charities across North America through the Keg Spirit Foundation. Our partnership with Bullfrog Power is extending that commitment and helping to preserve our planet for future generations,” said David Aisenstat, CEO, The Keg Steakhouse + Bar. “The Keg is proud to be working with Bullfrog Power to reduce its environmental impact, support new renewable energy projects across Canada and inspire the next generation to keep making sustainable choices.”

Aside from their great menu items, their friendly staff and their beautiful locations, I know have yet another reason to enjoy a meal at The Keg Steakhouse + Bar with Julio.
