Jessica Gorlicky, also known in the art community as Jessgo, is one of the most unique people I’ve yet to encounter along my FASHIONIGHTS journey. Her latest exhibit titled, Saturday Morning, has personally captured my heart and embodies all things from childhood from the 80’s and 90’s that you’d find on a Saturday morning as a child with a big bowl of sugary cereal in your lap.Located at her private studio, Seven UpJessgo Studios, the expansive north-end space was adorned with nostalgic pieces of art, decor and cereal. Yes there was a whole cereal bar, complete with milk fountain! Throw in a pancake serving station and I was transported to Saturday morning circa 1994.
And as for Jess, you simply can’t miss this woman; her luxurious curls can be seen from across the room. As she bounced over to say hello, we jumped on the bed in the middle of the room and snacked on breakfast cereal. When I asked her what her reasoning behind the exhibit was she looked me right in the eye and said “I don’t wanna grow up. I’m a Toys R Us kid!” I knew right then and there, I adored this woman. She explained that the proceeds from the raffle of one of her pieces that night would go directly to the Breakfast Club of Canada. For each dollar raised, one breakfast would be given to a hungry child.
The exhibit runs October-month long and I couldn’t possibly explain the joy that it’ll bring to visit. Whether admiring the art works of purchasing a one-of-a-kind piece, you won’t be disappointed!
